League Begins On The 29th Of April 2009
The Palmerstown 7 aside league that begins on the 29th of April this year is pleased to announce that Roy Kavanagh of the SDFL District Schoolboys League has aggreed to officiate all 31 games that will take place over the ten week period the league will run. Roy who turns 17 on the 6th of March this year is currently the second youngest offical referee in the country. On the 23rd of Augest last year Roy received his offical referee's licance having completed the F.A.I referee's testing course held in Saint Micheal's school in Inchicore, Roy has since impressed in the SDFL District League and was registered on the F.A.I referee's grassroots initiative in December last year. The SDFL offical has high hopes for his refereeing career and he aims to become a league of Ireland offial in the coming years. It is concievable that Roy may well become the youngest offical ever to referee a league of Ireland game if he continues to progress as he has done over the past year. Roy himself see's english referee Micheal Oliver as an example of what he could achieve. Oliver was just 22 years old when he refereed the English league championship game between Burnley and Scunthorpe United on the 26th of January 2008, five years have yet to pass before Roy reaches that age so who knows what the future holds in store for this young oficial. Roy himself is looking forward to the Parmo 7 Aside tournament as it is yet another opertunity to gain experiance needed on the road to achieving his goals.
