The Semi Finals

Bunch of Messi's 6-2 Return of the Mack

Talk among certain teams prior to Tuesday night’s games would have suggested the final was a foregone conclusion ahead of both the evenings’ semi final games. As it transpired both sides The Pimps and Return of the Mack who had done the entire pre match talking were both sent packing on the night.

Returns of the Mack were eliminated Tuesday night by an impressive Bunch of Messi’s side that were good value for their 6-2 win. Return of the Mack bowed out of the Parmo7aside with a whimper as they were simply outclassed on the night by a much stronger team, the 6-2 score line was that more sweet for The Bunch of Messi’s because a number of their players have been slated by Return of the Mack players. Any neutral at the game Tuesday night were left with no doubts who the better side and players are by the end of this game however.

The game itself wasn’t as entertaining as the league 3-3 draw between the sides but was still a very intriguing game to watch for the decent crowd gathered outside the pitch watching.  Bunch of Messi’s raced into a 3 goal lead thanks to a second minute goal from the outstanding Damo Cuff, a 15 minute Marcus Hogan strike and a third goal from rock solid centre half Foxy minutes later. Gary Kealy curled home a superb strike for Return of the Mack on 21 minutes however after eventually finding a way to beat a rock solid Bunch of Messi’s defence led by McDonnell and Foxy with player of the tournament Glen Somers behind them as insurance. Somers who was presented with the player of the tournament trophy prior to the game reiterated just way he was given the award all night by making superb stops when called upon. With half time approaching a cracking drive from Damo from 14 yards left Ian Coughlin rooted to the spot as the ball nestled into the bottom corner of his net.

4-1 down and with a mountain to climb Return of the Mack were to bow out of the Parmo7aside on a whimper as they never at any stage in this game looked likely to get into the game. To many of the Return of the Mack players simply never showed up on the night so to speak and with Gary Kealy, John McDonnell and Emmet Fitzpatrick all struggling to make an impact on the game and the normally solid Mark Kavanagh effected by an injury there was little Mark Lordon and star player Johno Boyle could do. Bunch of Messi’s players on the other hand were all playing well and their counter attacking style was tearing Return of the Mack as sounder. Dane made it 5-1 on the night to Bunch of Messi’s before a scuffle involving Johno Boyle and McDonnell at the other end saw Boyle blast home a free kick he was awarded following the altercation. Anto Boshell and his troops were great value for a win and 5 minutes from time an effort from Colly was deflected into his own net by John McDonnell as Bunch of Messi’s booked their spot in the Parmo7aside final with an impressive 6-2 victory

Key Points: Bunch of Messi’s were quite simply the better team, talking on the pitch is always more valuable than talking off the pitch.

Arsenal Legends 7-5 The Pimps

Arsenal Legends came through a battle Tuesday night to book their spot in the final on July the 7th. Throughout this game there was fighting and altercations involving The Pimps players who were simply dismayed to be beaten by the Arsenal Legends team who were outstanding on the night led by UCD pair Andy Boyle and Brian Shorthall.

Dean Robinson gave the Legends a one nil lead before a Gary Curran effort levelled matters soon after. The Pimps were struggling to get a grip on this game and their frustrations boiled over by the time substitute Johno Boyle and the superb Andy Boyle had given the Legends a 3-1 lead. The Pimps Git looked set to knock his team mate Richie out cold before a number of Pimps players stepped in to calm matters, bizarrely goalkeeper Richie then began to leave the pitch only to be convinced to return????????????????????

Back to the football and it was Arsenal Legends who were the ones playing it!!!!!. Seamo daly fired just wide before a thunderous strike from class act Brian Shorthall was finger tipped wide of the target by Richie. The Pimps were flying into tackles and for a spell it seemed to upset the Arsenal Legends, a good finish from Gilly and a well taken goal by Git made the game level at 3-3.

The Legends began to pass their way around The Pimps however and a 10 minute hat trick from the impressive Dean Robinson gave the Legends a 6-3 lead. 6-3 became 7 soon after as Jeff blasted home from close range for the Legends following some bad defending from a normally rock solid Pimps side. The Pimps goalkeeper Richie could also be questioned for one or two of the goals, perhaps he was affected by the early scuffle he was involved in???????

The Pimps hate to lose and that’s one thing they must be greatly respected for, a strike from Darren Martin and a neat finish from Git pegged the game back to 7-5 but it was to little to late as the Arsenal Legends deservedly booked a place in next weeks final.

Key Points: Andy Boyle was immense; Brian Shorthall and Dean Robinson also caught the eye in a robust game of astro
