A reminder to all the teams in the Parmo7aside that only players who have featured in at least 2 league games (any 2 league games for any of the sides) will be edge able to play in the semi finals and in the final. This rule insures no team can call upon special guest players to insure victory unfairly. Teams are permitted to take players from any of the sides who do not make the semi finals if they are needed to fill in for their side. There is an exception to this rule for team The Pimps, The Pimps will be allowed feature any players in the semi finals who have featured in one league game or more, this exception has been made for The Pimps as they were late comers to this years tournament.

The Pimps 6-2 Return of the Mack

The Pimps insured their faith is in their own hands as far as winning the league goes thanks to a superb display and a convincing 6-2 victory over Return of the Mack Tuesday night amidst superb weather at the Coldcut Astro Park. The Pimps are now lying second in the table and know wins against Supervalu and Cabra  will guarantee them a top  of the table finish as they have a game in hand over Bunch of Messi’s.

This was a cracking game to watch and it was played at a superb tempo with both sides fully committed in the tackle. The 6-2 defeat on the night has left Return of the Mack wanting a rematch to prove themselves a better team than they showed on the night and they might just get that opportunity as I fancy both these sides to meet again in this year’s Parmo7aside final, what a final that would be!!.

Return of the Mack started the brighter of the 2 sides and with just 2 minutes played Gary Kealy blasted home the opening goal of the night. The Pimps were strong and resilient all game however and they simply refused to lie down. Gilly twice forced Ian Coughlin to make saves before Coughlin was again called into action as he saved well from the powerhouse that is Shaun Byrne in the Pimps midfield. The Pimps did eventually find an equalizing goal 15 minutes in as a superb run down the left by Shaun Byrne saw him cut inside Gary Kealy before blasting home. Ruturn of the Mack were struggling to find their form and The Pimps led by the astute Brendan Mac continued to dominate proceedings. Neil Byrne who was again outstanding for his side showing some class touches and strength on the ball released the lighting quick Darren Martin; Martin made no mistake one on one with Ian Coughlin and his low drive nestled in the back of the net. At the other end an attempt by Johno Boyle witch clearly hit the side netting was appealed by the Return of the Mack players to have crossed the line but referee for the game Derek Kavanagh refused to be fooled and he waved away the in vain appeals. With half time approaching a third Pimps goal arrived thanks to a superb through ball from Gary Curran which was finished off neatly by Glenville player Gilly who had a good game on the night.

Return of the Mack in their previous league game had come back from 3-0 down at half time vs The Best but there was to be no repeat comeback in this one as The Pimps were again the better side in the second half outplaying and out muscling Return of the Mack in all departments. Ian Coughlin made a save from Darren Martin early in the second half before Johno Boyle produced the goal of the night for his Return of the Mack side. Boyle collected the ball inside his own half before setting on a run towards the Pimps goal which saw him evade 3 challenges before driven home a superb goal past The Pimps solid keeper Richie.  Johno Boyle turned from hero to villain soon after however as he somehow failed to convert a cross from Emmet Fitzpatrick which presented him with a scoring opportunity 3 yards out. The Pimps again assumed control of the game after that and Darren Martin fired in his second of the night from 6 yards before Aido finished superbly following a splendid cross from Git on the right hand side. Return of the Mack were deflated by the goals and despite creating one or two half chances they never really looked likely to get back in this game. Gilly completed the scoring on the night for the Pimps as he fired home following a rebounded effort which had seen Brendan Mac denied what would have been his 4th goal of the tournament. Full time The Pimps 6-2 Return of the Mack!

Key Points: Only Ian Coughlin preformed on the night for an under par Return of the Mack side. Sean Byrne was superb for the Pimps and centre forward Gilly caused problems all night for the Return of the Mack team. I’ve a feeling these two sides will meet again in the Parmo7aside final!

Supervalu 10-7 Arsenal Legends

Who would have thought in week six we would be talking about Supervalu as potential semi Finalists of the Parmo7aside. Supervalu are now sitting in 4th position in the league following 3 wins from their last 4 games. Supervalu’s 10-7 defeat of Arsenal Legends Tuesday night has given them a superb opportunity of progressing to the Semi Finals and win vs The Pimps next week will assure them a guaranteed semi final spot. Arsenal Legends have it all to do now in their final 2 games and they know they must now either beat Return of the Mack or The Best if they are to progress to the semi finals.

David Holmes Supervalu side began slowly in this one and it was the young Arsenal Legends side that were dominant early on. Supervalu were looking sturdy at the back however and Gavin Clifford, Stephen Holmes and Brian Shorthall were letting nothing by them, on the few occasions the Legends did breach the Supervalu rearguard the once again outstanding Rossi was there to perform heroics. The Parmo7aside in form player Anto Notaro was to open the scoring in this one bagging his 12th goal of the competition following a through ball form Stephen Holmes. Arseanl Legends continued to press at the other end but the Supervalu defence was still looking strong led by the gifted Brian Shorthall and the no nonsense Gavin Clifford who takes no prisoners in a tackle. Another brake away Supervalu goal came 11 minutes in as Anto Notaro cut the ball back from the left to the feet of David Holmes, Holmes controlled well before slotting the ball past Greg Murray into the roof of the net. Aresenal Legends responded and Gary Smith who was excellent all game finally found the back of the night for his side as he finished well from a tight angle.

The game went pare shaped from then on for The Legends however and Anto Notaro added 2 goals to the Supervalu tally to complete his hat trick before an amazing goal came from Brain Shorthall soon after. Shorthall who had won a corner following a challenge from Seamus Daly placed the ball down to take the corner, now whatever about scoring a corner kick on an eleven aside pitch an Astro pitch is a different story, the angle of the ball is more difficult for one as the corner is taken from the end line and there is no circle to place the ball in and second of all the goals are allot smaller. Shorthall somehow managed to blast the ball from the corner into the far corner of West Brom trialist Greg Murrays Arsenal Legends net with Connor Byrne also seeing the ball fly past him at the front post, a moment of class from a class footballer! Snowy added a sixth for Supervalu soon after with another well taken goal before Stephen Holmes blasted in to give Supervalu an amazing 7-1 half time lead.

7-1 was an unfair reflection on this game and The Legends came out battling in the second half determined to turn things around. Gary Smith was displaying real strength and quality ability on the ball but unfortunately his side were lacking ability in front of goal. Supervalu’s Anto Notaro on the other hand is clinical in front of goal and he scored his 4th of the night 7 minutes in following a great run and superbly taken goal. With the game now at 8-1 Supervalu seemed to take the game for granted and began to chop and change their side, Brian Shorthall and Anto Notaro took a rest with Karl Whelan and David Holmes again returning to the action. The Supervalu defence suddenly didn’t look as solid and the ArsenalLegends lay siege on the Supervalu gaol, Rossi pulled off some outstanding saves but unfortunately could not deny Seamus Daly and two well taken Greg Murray gaols. 8-4 down and with a glimmer of hope the Legends continued to attack and following a cross form Dean Robinson Seamus Daly finished superbly to make it 8-5 and bag his 11th goal of the tournament. Stephen Holmes appeared to rap the game up for Supervalu with 12 minutes to go scoring his 2nd of the night. The Arsenal Legends again came back looking for goals and when a scramble in the Supervalu box took place the ball appeared to bounce up of the leg of Greg Murray hitting Bubbins and despite getting a hand to it Rossi’s attempt to save the ball was in vain as the ball was deemed to have crossed the line by the referee who on the advice of the on looking Alan Notaro has since taken a trip to specsavers ha. Alan Notaro was also adamant the great power of Karl Whelan by the gate get a mention so there you go Notaro haha. David Holmes was unlucky not to seal the victory for Supervalu late on as he saw a cracking effort rebound back of the crossbar. The scoring for the night wasn’t finished however and Gray Smith pulled another goal back for the Legends before a long range effort form Gavin Clifford saw Sean Daly put through his own net. Full time Supervalu 10-7 Arsenal Legends.

Key Points: Supervalu goalkeeper Rossi was superb yet again; Gary Smith looks a real class act for the Legends. Supervalu are in with a great chance of qualifying but could still suffer the heartbreak of going out on goal difference if Arsenal Legends can manage a win in their final 2 games or if The Best win both their final games, the race for 4th place is very close!.

Keepitonthedeck 7-5 The Best

Keepitonthedeck gave Johno Kellys The Best a huge blow in their bid to reach the top 4 in the parmo7aside Monday night.  The hugely important 4th position is now likely to be decided in the final week of action in the Parmo7aside league with Arsenal Legends, Supervalu and The Best all still in contention for the last spot in the semi finals.

This was an intriguing game of football right from the off full of commitment and will to win. Keepitonthedeck knew going into this game they were already out of contention for a top 4 finish whatever happened due to their poor goal difference. Keepitonthedeck were determined not to be beaten however and were playing to avoid the embarrassment of a bottom of the table finish.

Keepitonthedeck for the first time during the tournament looked to have a real shape to their side, they looked solid at the back with Jamie Garamanli and Derek Kavanagh sitting back throughout the game and Sean Daly,Mark Kavanagh and Jay Nutty free to play in midfield with Eoin Quinnlan playing as a target man up front. The Best on the other hand lacked structure and perhaps this on reflection has been their downfall throughout the Parmo7aside.

The opening goal of this game came 15 minutes in as Jamie Garamanli blasted home a cross from the impressive Eoin Quinnlan. The Best were dominating possession however and despite this they could not find a way past a resilient Keepitonthedeck defensive minded set up. One nil became 2 nil for Keepitonthedeck when Sean Daly fired past Andy in the Best goal. The Best responded knowing it was vital they get something from this game and they began to lay siege on the Keepitonthedeck goal. Eventually 18 minutes in the Keepitonthedeck resistance was broken as Dan picked up a cross field ball from Paul Dillon before riffling a shot low past Daniel Kalo who had been solid all game for his Keepitonthedeck side in goal. With half time Eoin Quinnlan produced some superb skill skipping past Johno Kelly and Dorton before blasting in a third Keepitonthedeck goal of the night.

The Best 3-1 down at the brake came out fighting and showing real aggression and determination to get back into the game. The Best began to dominate proceedings and Daniel Kalo was forced to save well from Dorton and Dan before a Paul Dillon and Jeff Geoff effort was charged down by Derek Kavanagh. Keepitonthedeck were somehow holding off the onslaught before they were to become their own worst enemy. Jamie Garamanli gave Daniel Kalo a backpass, Kalo controlled before trying to spread the ball to Jason Nutty, Nutty however had his back turned to the play and Jeff Geoff gratefully intercepted the ball before slotting home. Now at 3-2 the game was on a knife edge and when Eoin Quinnlan struck an effort just side the signs seemed ominous for Keepitonthedeck that they might blow their hard earned lead. 14 minutes into the second half and a huge blow for Keepitonthedeck arrived, a long ball forward from Johno Kelly saw Paul Dillon give chase to Jamie Garmanli who was facing his own goal, Garamnali slid to intercept the ball before Paul Dillon but in doing so directed a shot at his own gaol witch to his horror trickled past the advancing Daniel Kalo and into the back of the net.

With the game now at 3-3 Keepitonthedeck began to up their game, a through ball from the outstanding Mark Kavanagh saw Sean Daly balst home his second of the night. Daly who was playing up front was on form in front of goal and when Jason Nutty cut a low cross back from the right hand side minutes later Daly duly riffled in his hat trick. The Best were still looking good coming forward and they were rewarded for their attacking mentality when Dan fired home his 2nd of the night following a run from Dorton. 5-4 soon became 6-4 as Sean Daly again blasted home when released by Eoin Quinnlan.  With just 6 minutes remaining Johno Kelly insured an intriguing end would be inshore as he nestled a blistering strike low past Daniel Kalo form 12 yards. At the other end a Derek Kavanagh effort  smashed against the bar before crossing the face of The Best goalmouth and then Eoin Quinnlan soon after somehow missed from 2 yards out as he tried to flick the ball home rather than finishing. The game was sealed however with 2 minutes to go as the clinical Sean Daly fired past Andy to bag his 5th of the night and an impressive 7-5 win for his Keepitonthedeck side.

Key Points: A huge blow for The Best who will now need 2 wins from their final 2 games to stand any chance of progressing to the semi finals of the tournament.  Keepitonthedeck will regret their defeat to Supervalu the previous week because if they had have won that one they would be looking good for a top 4 finish.

Bunch of Messi's 12-3 Cabra

Anto Boshells Bunch of Messi’s returned to the top of the Parmo7aside league Monday night with a comfortable 12-3 victory over the leagues basement side Cabra. Bunch of Messi’s have as a result of this victory guaranteed their place in the semi finals of the Parmo7aside which take place on Tuesday night the 30th of June. Bunch of Mess’s will now look ahead to their meeting with Keepitonthedeck next week knowing a win will give them every chance of finishing top of the table and by doing so they will avoid meeting the teams who finish 2nd and 3rd place. Cabra still have 3 games to play in the league but would require a victory in all 3 to progress to the semi final stage of the Parmo7aside so it’s safe to say this result effectively has all but eliminated the north side team from the tournament.

Bunch of Messi’s controlled this game right from the outset and Colly and former Sunderland player Gavin Donoghue gave them a 2 goal lead within 6 minutes. Bunch of Messi’s were dealt a blow soon after however as their sturdy centre back and one real out and out defender McDonnell senior appeared to fall awkwardly on his knee. McDonnell who has been superb throughout the tournament for his side will hope the injury isn’t to series as the semi finals take place on the 30th of this month and he is an invaluable member of the Bunch of Messi’s outfit. Aged 46 McDonnell is simply a classic example of how a football brain is not only more valuable an asset than just pace and running but also that it’s always the players gifted with technique and a football brain who last longest in the game.

Bunch of Messi’s replaced McDonnell senior with son John McDonnell who had being watching the game unfold up until then. 2-0 soon became 3 as Anto Boshell finished off a neat move involving Colly and the impressive Gavin Donoghue who was a powerhouse in possession of the ball all game. John McDonnell then added a 4th for Bunch of Messi’s displaying great pace to leave both Bob and Glen Walsh in his wake before coolly slotting home. Cabra were being overrun and when Anto Boshell cut in from the left hand side beating Paddy McGinn and Bohemians under 20 player Younger with great skill he riffled in a glorious 5th for his side much to the frustrations of a dazed Cabra team.

John Martin pulled a goal back for Cabra with a well taken strike form 8 yards beating Glen Somers who was as reliable as ever on the night for his side. The hope was short lived however as  Gavin Donoghue helped himself to his second of the night before Bunch of Messi’s Foxy added a 7th just on the stroke of half time following a great tackle and through ball from the ever impressive Dane Daniels who has improved every game during the course of this tournament .

Cabra did manage to up their game in the second half and perhaps underlined the need of Bunch of Messi’s to sort out their defence before the semi finals at the end of the month. Glen Somers was forced into making 3 great saves for his side that in truth were already home and dry following 2 well taken goals from Colly and a blistering strike from Gavin Donoghue to complete his hat trick. John Martin did eventually find the net for Cabra who had missed some guilt edged chances during the second half, a mix up and messing around in possession in their own box allowed John to dispossess the normally flawless Gavin Donoghue and he made no mistake blasting the ball past Glen Somers. Bunch of Messi’s responded swiftly and Foxy bagged his second of the night to make it 11-2 before a stupendous lob from just inside the Cabra half by the sheer technique brilliance of Colly Found Younger watching the ball drift over his head and landing perfectly in the Cabra net. With 1 minute to go Foxy brought down Bob in the box and Ste Red blasted home the spot kick to finish the scoring on the night. Bunch of Messi’s 12-3 Cabra

Key Points: Anto Boshell may now look to play some new players in next week’s game vs Keepitonthedeck with an eye on the semi final, the rule that only players who have featured in at least 2 league games can feature after the league period will apply for the semi final stage of the tournament and the final and Boshell may wish to qualify as many players as possible before his semi final date on the 30th of this month. Glen Somers done himself no harm in this one in relation to player of the tournament making saves when needed, Gavin Donoghue was excellent, Anto Boshell and Dane Daniels are forming a real strong centre midfield partnership. Bob was the pick of the Cabra players on the night with Figo showing heart for his side also. Anyone who wants to see what a perfect first touch means must get up the Coldcut next Tuesday to watch Colly in action. Big call but on this showing ive a feeling Bunch of Messi’s will be playing in the Parmo7aside final on the 7th of July.
