PARMO7ASIDE REPORT: we are now embarking upon the sixth week of football in the Parmo7aside league which to date in my opinion has been a success story. Granted mistakes have been made and there are more than one or two rules that need adjusting but this has all been part of the learning curve in running what has been effectively a tournament free to enter. Arguable having played in Astro leagues such as the Lucan and Celbridge astro leagues the Parmo7aside despite having less resources has proven to have a much more up to date website structure and without doubt a better standard of football teams.

The one negative over the last few weeks was again epitomised this week however, team Bunch of Messi’s for the second week running were short 15 euro in their payment. This means team Bunch of Messi’s over the past 2 weeks have left the league short 30 euro which is an absolute disgrace considering its a simple 5 euro per player game of football with balls bibs, ball boy, a ref and tournament trophies all provided for. Credit to teams Keepitonthedeck, Return of the Mack, Supervalu, Cabra, The Pimps and The Best who have all consistently paid their 35 euro in full over the past 5 weeks. Teams Bunch of Messi’s and Arsenal Legends have both left the league short on money on more than one occasion and for this reason a new league rule will be implemented starting from next week.

The new league rule is only fair as trophies alone for the league have cost 176 euro and that’s without mentioning the cost of Bibs and balls as well as the effort in maintaining this very website which is currently the 3rd fastest growing ucoz site on its network with over 5600 views already.

The new league rule is as follows............If any league team leaves without full payment of 35 euro on the night of their game they will be deducted 6 league points straight away without any notice or any appeal. This rule is only fair on all the teams in the league not to mention the people running this tournament as lets not forget the Coldcut Astro does cost 60 euro per hours rent!!!!!!!

Supervalu 10-8 Keepitonthedeck

The 2nd of June 2009 produced an enthralling encounter between two sides fighting to stay alive in this year’s Parmo7aside. Following a 10-8 victory Supervalu have now effectively eliminated Keepitonthedeck from this year’s competition baring an unlikely miracle which would require Keepitonthedeck to win both their final games and hope for draws in several other games. Supervalu have now given themselves a real fighting opportunity in the competition to finish in the top 4 and their encounter with Arsenal Legends next Tuesday will effectively make or break their tournament. David Holmes has done a superb job with his astro team in recent weeks recruiting some solid players for his side and next Tuesday Holmes will need to call upon every available talented player he can find as his team play Arsenal Legends in what is effectively a playoff game for both sides in the sense the winner is likely to finish in 4th spot and in doing so achieving an all important place in the Parmo7aside semi finals.

This game played in boiling hot conditions on a superb Coldcut Astro Park surface saw Keepitonthedeck control the opening 15 minutes. Jamie Garamanli had opened the scoring for his side before Dan Hoey made it 2 with a neat finish following a save from Rossi in the Supervalu goal. A misplaced pass from Jamie Garamanli 13 minutes gifted Anto Notaro a chance to level matters and he duly obliged with a well taken finish past Keepitonthedeck goalkeeper Daniel Kalo who came into this game carrying an injury. Keepitonthedeck soon restored their lead as Derek Kavanagh curled home a 13 yard effort past Rossi, Supervalu however once again capitalized on a second misplaced Jamie Garamanli pass within 2 minutes as a low drilled effort from John Dunne flew past the hapless Daniel Kalo in the Keepitonthedeck goal. Just on half time arguable the goal of the night arrived as a superb passing move involving John Macdonald, Derek Kavanagh, Mark Kavanagh and Dan Hoey saw Jason Nutty sweep home his side’s 4th goal of the night and with it a valuable 4-2 half time lead.

The second half of this game produced 12 goals and a real battle as the daunting prospect of being the first team to exit this year’s competition became a reality. Supervalu drew first blood as Gavin Clifford who had been rock all game at the back for his side released Anto Notaro, Notaro controlled well before driving a shot on target and to his delight the ball once again flew past Daniel Kalo who was evidently being effected by his injury. Keepitonthedeck restored their lead however as Jason Nutty beat Rossi following a neat passing move. At 5-3 the game was still very much in the balance and again a speculative effort from the impressive Anto Notaro managed to somehow find its way past Daniel Kalo. Keepitonthedeck rallied and following strikes from Dan Hoey and a neat Mark Kavanagh finish the game seemed to swing towards a Keepitonthedeck victory.

Spervalu now 7-4 down and with just 16 minutes remaining seemed all but eliminated from the Parmo7aside. David Holmes Supervalu however is full of spirit and they refused to accept defeat. Anto Notaro was leading by example and 2 well taken goals brought his team back into the game at 7-6. Keepitonthedeck were their own worst enemies as Jason Nutty epitomised the team’s continuous refusal to track back leaving gaps for the rallying Supervalu to expose. The warning signs were there for Keepitonthedeck on more than one occasion that this game was far from over and none more so than when the inspired Anto Notaro cut inside both Jamie Garamanli and Mark Kavanagh before riffling a shot a goal, a last ditch block from Derek Kavanagh denied him however much to the frustration of Notaro who seemed set to bag his 6th of the night. A powerful run from Gavin Clifford followed by a drive at goal was again blocked by Kavanagh soon after as Supervalu continued to lay siege on a Keepitonthedeck defence which consisted of only 2 willing defenders.

Eventually Supervalu did find an equalizing goal as a move involving John Dunne and Karl Dempsey saw Stephen Holmes curl home a coolly taken gaol. Supervalu weren’t finished there and with most of the Keepitonthedeck players yet again caught in possession up front they were left exposed at the back and much to the delight of David Holmes a thunderous Gary Sommerville strike gave his team a 8-7 lead. Karl Dempsey then fired past Kalo to make it 9-7 before a 10th goal arrived with Anto Notaro amazingly bagging his 6th goal of the night. Keepitonthedeck had nothing to lose and they lay siege on the Supervalu goal, John Macdonald drilled home following a pass from Deerek Kavanagh from a dubious free kick given by Emmet Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick was again at the centre of attention minutes later as he denied Keepitonthedeck a goal as a John Macdonald effort appeared to cross the line; Fitzpatrick waved away the appeals for a gaol however, Effords from Mark Kavanagh, Derek kavnagh and Dan Hoey were all saved brilliantly by the reliable goalkeeper Ross Donegan before the end as Supervalu secured an invaluable 3 points in their quest to prove all the people who had predicted they would be tournament whipping boys wrong by qualifying for the semi final stage of the tournament.

Key Points: David Holmes knows allot of people and it’s shown in recent weeks as he has now sneakily assembled a team capable of finishing in the top 4. Keepitonthedeck who had players in their team pre tournament predicting Supervalu to be tournament whipping boys have now well and truly had the smile whipped from their face as Supervalu have now eliminated them. Anto Notaro was superb in this game, with Gavin Clifford and the ever reliable Rossi having very good games for their side also. Arseanl Legends vs Supervalu next Tuesday night will be a cracking game of Astro and is without a shadow of a doubt going to be the most important game of the tournament so far.
The Pimps 10-3 Bunch of Messi's

The Pimps picked up where they left off following their 6-0 victory over Keepitonthedeck the previous week by beating Bunch of Messi’s by 10 goals to 3 on Tuesday night in glorious playing conditions at the Coldcut Astro Park.

Bunch of Messi’s were outclassed all night by a Pimps team which now stand a real chance of being crowned the unofficial best 7 aside team in Palmerstown, Cabra, Clondalkin and Ballyfermot. The first 15 minutes of this game was a tight affair and in truth it was hard to separate either of these teams, 16 minutes in however man of the match Neil Byrne broke the deadlock with a superb goal for his side following a strong run from Sean Byrne. Sean who has impressed over the last few weeks is a real old fashioned typed battling midfield player and in many ways he epitomises his team’s real physicality and no nonsense approach in the tackle. Former Sunderland professional footballer Gavin Donoghue levelled matters on the night soon after with a hotly disputed goal following some bad referring by Emmet Fitzpatrick who was officiating for this top of the table clash.

The Pimps rallied however and after falling behind 2-1 when Dane Daniels netted for Bunch of Messi’s The Pimps displayed real passion and a will to win. Neil Byrne went on to score again for his side before strikes from Gary Curren and Darren Martin made it 4-2. The Pimps team leader Brendan Mac then produced a superb finish for his side when released by Glenville’s Gilly, Brendan with Glen Somers baring down on him simple scooped the ball delicately over the advancing goalkeeper and into an overworked Bunch of Messi’s net. Bunch of Messi’s most impressive outfield player on the night Colly pegged the game back to 5-3 soon after following a great run and finish but the Bunch of Messi’s hope was short lived as Git blasted home a belter for his side at the other end.

The second half was all one way traffic as The Pimps again showed just why they have gained a good reputation among other teams participating in the league. Neil Byrne struck 2 cracking goals for his side with Gilly and Sean Byrne both adding to the rout as The Pimps cruised to a 10-3 victory. Bunch of Messi’s were their own worst enemy and on to many occasions they left their superb goalkeeper Glen Somers without any defence. Indeed were it not for some outstanding saves from Glen this could have easily been an absolute trouncing for the Bunch of Messi’s outfit who were in fairness missing 3 key players on the night.

Key Points: Bunch of Messi’s team shape was shocking on the night. The Pimps are on a roll ahead of their hardest game to date in the tournament when they take on the hugely impressive Return of the Mack team next Tuesday night at 8pm. What a game The Pimps vs Return of the Mack will be, arguable the winners may well be the team who top the league come the end of the league period and who knows it may even be a dress rehearsal for the Parmo7aside final in just over 3 weeks time.
