Congratulations to Anto Boshell and his teammates who won the first ever Parmo7aside Tuesday night and are now crowned the unofficial astro kings of Palmerstown, Ballyfermot,, Neilstown and Cabra. An 8-3 victory over Seamus Daly’s Arsenal Legends was enough to crown Bunch of Messi’s well deserved champions of the Parmo7aside.

Arsenal Legends who controversially started with just one of their original tournament team called in a number of guest player that were available due to appearances for other sides in the tournament but this was still not enough to overcome a superb Bunch of Messi’s outfit as it turned out.

The game itself was played at a decent tempo from start to finish and just 5 minutes in Colly drilled home a cracking opening goal to give Bunch of Messi’s an early advantage. Arsenal Legends had the majority of possession throughout the night but just simply could not find a way past Damo, Foxy and the outstanding John McDonnell senior who were all excellent on the night. When the Legends did manage to breach the stir Bunch of Messi’s rearguard the imperious Glen Somers was on hand to make outstanding saves, what a tournament the shot stopper had!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Frustrations were growing in the Arsenal Legends camp with every missed chance and Bunch of Messi’s took full advantage at the other end. The poor mans Vidic AKA Damo blasted home a second for the Messi’s following good link up play involving Anto Boshell, Marcus Hogan and Dane. 2-0 became 3-0 as John McDonnell senior finished well following good work from Damo and Colly down the Arsenal Legends right hand side. McDonnell aged 46 is an example to everyone who has played in the tournament, McDonnell despite his age is proof that no matter how old a player may be, its always the players with the ball ability and football brain that last longest and no matter what circumstances always stand out , a class act!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

The second half again followed much the same pattern as the first as The Legends continued to lay siege on the Bunch of Messi’s goal but could simply not find a way past an outstanding defence. Damo was getting his body in the way of everything and he just about piped his fellow defenders Foxy and McDonnell to the last player of the week award thanks to his outstanding display. Chance after chance was denied by blocks or saves from Glen Somers before Johno Boyle did keep his cool well in front of goal and slotted home well to make it 4-2. The glimmer of hope was short lived however as at the other end Foxy netted 2 crackers within the space of 2 minutes to make it 6-2. Damo the added his second of the night to bring the Messi’s tally to 7 for the night before Marcus Hogan scored what was in my opinion arguably the goal of the tournament. Following a corner from Colly Hogan controlled majestically on his chest at the back post before blasting a volley past Ian Coughlin form 9 yards out, a goal of sheer quality and technique. Dean Robinson completed the scoring on the night as he netted a last minute consolation goal for Arsenal Legends 2 minutes from the end. It was too little too late for the Legends however and only really Andy Boyle, Johno Boyle and Brian Shorthall preformed on the night  for the frustrated Legends whereas not one player out of the 8 man strong Bunch of Messi’s squad had a bad game.
