The game itself was begun 10 minutes late as Cabra were delayed in their 4 mile travel across the City. Heavy downpours of rain made for tricky playing conditions and this promised to be an intriguing affair.
Cabra began the game with 5 outfield players as 2 of the team were still on route and it would have catastrophic effects on the game as Ankle Kickers came out of the traps flying.
The Anto Thornberry show began 5 minutes in as he fired Ankle Kickers into an early lead, Thornberry who was the games star performer would strike again soon after as a lacklustre Cabra side were being run ragged by a determined Ankle Kickers outfit.
Cabra were boosted by the late arrival of Mick Finnegan and Paddy McMinn 15 minutes in and it briefly showed as a fortunate Mick Finnegan corner kick somehow found its way past Ciaran Ruddy in the Ankle Kickers goal. The Cabra Fight back was brief however and when Ger(T10,000) went on a mazy run down the Cabra right flank a third 3rd Ankle Kickers goal was supplied, a neat Cut back by Ger was blasted home by the prolific James Healy. Anto Thornberry completed his hat trick 22 minutes in to make it 4-1 to Ankle Kickers following a neat finish.
Cabra in truth were being overrun and were it not for some guilt edged chances being sent wide Ankle Kickers would have had the cigars out by half time. A goal from Cabra team leader Glen Walsh was little consolation for Cabra before half time as Ankle Kickers had already extended their lead to 6-2 following strikes from James McCabe and James Healy.
The second half began in much the same vain as the first and it was Ankle Kickers who extended their lead 6 minutes in, the goal scorer a formality at this stage as once again Anto Thornberry rattled the Cabra net. The impressive Emmet Fitzpatrick struck for Cabra soon after with a well taken left footed strike from 12 yards; Bob {Skinner} then gave Cabra a glimmer of hope as he made it 7-4 following a through ball from Derek Kavanagh. Graham McCauley rallied his Ankle Kickers players once again however and Anto Thornberry registered his 5th of the night before a sweetly stuck Alan Hope goal gave Ankle Kickers a 4 goal cousin {9-5}.
Team leader Graham McCauley then began and finished a 10th Ankle Kickers goal following good build up play from the tireless Ger (T10,000) and the fleet footed James McCabe, a coolly taken left footed finished was a real blow to Cabra who were just beginning to gather momentum. Indeed that momentum was to peak for Cabra with 15 minutes remaining as Ankle Kickers seemed to switch off in defence, a cabra onslaught in sued and Paddy McMinn netted twice within the space of 5 minutes to make it 10-7.

Tuesday night the 4th of April 2009 proved to be a huge wake up call for Keepitonthedeck as they were crushed by a strong Return of the Mack outfit. With Graham McCauley who was scheduled to referee the affair held up due to work reasons the game was played without a match official which made it difficult to keep track of game stats. This will not be an issue during the tournament as every game will now be overseen by Derek Kavanagh with the exception of his own team Keepitonthedeck for whom Graham McCauley will now officiate.
Played in horrendous conditions this friendly game was a one sided affair right from the off as Return of the Mack controlled all areas of the exceptional coldcut astro pitch. Dan Hoey and Gary Kealy bagged over a dozen goals between them while Owen Quinnlin and Jonathon Boyle also had a field day netting past the helpless Roy Kavanagh in the Keepitonthedeck goal, Emmet Fitzpatrick and Mark Kavanagh also got in on the scoring act for one of this year’s favourites to reach the parmo7aside final.
Keepitonthedeck were left dazzled and their pride shattered on the night by the trouncing and the 23-7 full time shoreline has already led to 4 players being replaced by Derek Kavanagh who will have a new look team ahead of Friday night’s friendly clash with Cabra. Return of the mack on the other hand must be filled with confidence and with just over 2 weeks till the start of the tournament will fancy themselves as potential winners although team Aresenal Legends and team Bunch of Messi’s will provide strong opposition.
Upcoming friendly’s for the parmo7aside league can be found on the friendly page on the left hand side of this page and we remind all teams involved that there is now little over 2 weeks to prepare for the tournament. Return of the Mack will play Ankle Kickers.FC this coming Tuesday the 14the of April in the coldcut Astro Park with a kick off time of 9pm, Derek Kavanagh will referee this affair!!!

Last Friday the 10th of April saw Keepitonthedeck and Cabra.FC draw an intriguing match on a glorious sunny day in the coldcut Astro Park 8-8. The game itself lacked technique at times particularly amongst the Cabra side but were they lacked in technique they more than made up for with a determined display.
Despite dominating the opening exchanges Keepitonthedeck found themselves 2 goals down within 15 minutes, Glen Walsh opened the scoring with a well directed header following a great ball into the box from Figo, Walsh then doubled the lead with a cool one on one finish following a threw ball from Paddy McMinn. This seemed to spark Keepitonthedeck into life and the rest of the first half was controlled completely by the new look Keepitonthedeck. Connor Byrne was first to pull a goal back 18 minutes in after a great ball from Chris, Chris himself then added 3 more goals to give Keepitonthedeck a 4-2 lead.
Keepitonthedeck debutant Daniel Bradley who was outstanding all evening added a 5 goal for his side who were now passing the cabra outfit off the park. With half time approaching Derek Kavanagh intercepted a poor ball from Ciaran, he then skipped past 2 poor challenges before finding Sean Daly who had popped up on the right hand side, Daly accelerated past the challenge of younger before unleashing a cracking 18 yard strike which arrowed into the Cabra net to make it 6-2. Figo pulled a goal back for Cabra right on half time when he drove a shot past Roy Kavanagh in the Keepitonthedeck goal (half time 6-3).
